Lieu de Sculpture – Studio Agreement for New Students
Classical Sculpture in a Respectful, Focused Environment
Welcome to Lieu de Sculpture. This studio is a quiet, focused environment dedicated to the study of classical sculpture.

1. Respect the Process
Our focus is on learning, not achieving a flawless product. Sculpture is a classical discipline—mistakes and revisions are part of the growth. Emotional attachment to a piece can hinder learning. Be open, humble, and patient.

2. Booking my sessions

Sessions are book independently through the Studios' Calendly account. You must book at least two hours ahead. The booking link will close two hours prior. We ask that you attend regularly at your own pace to keep your sculpture in working order and to respect the studio flow. We have limited storage space and cannot keep abandoned work on the shelf without communicating a long absence.

3. Instruction & Teachability
Whether you’re a beginner or come with experience in another field (e.g., anatomy, medicine, ceramics), please enter with a teachable spirit. Instruction is rooted in time-tested methods. Skipping foundational steps can result in structural failure.

4. Studio Environment Self-Reliance

While guidance is always available, sculpture is a balance between instruction and independent discovery. Too much questioning, especially over every small decision, limits your growth. You are encouraged to experiment, problem-solve, and develop your own artistic voice.

5. Studio Environment
This is a peaceful, focused workspace. Excessive talking, emotional outbursts, arguing with instructions, or competitive behavior disrupt the atmosphere. Please respect others’ concentration and approach the work with a calm, committed mindset.

6. Sculpture Wrapping & Care
On your first day, you’ll be shown how to correctly wrap and spray your sculpture. After that, it is your responsibility to:

  • Wrap your piece airtight with symmetrical plastic and compression so it retains moisture.
  • Spray it with water thoroughly (upon second session) before wrapping.
  • Attend regularly or semi-regularly to prevent  sculpture from drying out.

7.  Kiln & Firing Disclaimer
If you choose to have your work fired, please understand: firing is a delicate, high-risk process. Even with perfect care, firing may cause cracks, breaks, or explosions. To minimize risk, students must:

  • Follow all structural and moisture-related instructions.
  • Properly hollow sculpture and manage wall thickness.
  • Dry their piece thoroughly (typically several weeks).

There are no guarantees in the kiln. If your piece breaks, we will support you—but we cannot be responsible for the outcome.

8. Session Packages & Attendance
Session packs  or gift certificates must be initiated within one year of purchase.
